ABSTRACT
This study investigated Teachers quality and Academic Performance of students in senior secondary school in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide the study, five research questions were raised. The descriptive study was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises of 770 teachers in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. A sample of 50 teachers from 5 Senior Secondary Schools was randomly selected for the study. The research instrument used to gather data for the study was a Questionnaire titled “Teachers Quality and Academic Performance Questionnaire (TQAPQ)”. Data collected were analyzed using the descriptive study mean and standard deviation and the reliability of the study tested 0.84 using Pearson Product moment correlation statistic. The findings revealed that there is a significant influence in teachers' quality and academic performance of student in senior secondary school in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study also revealed that teacher’s personality affects the academic performance of students in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. It was concluded that there is a positive relationship between teachers’ quality and academic performance in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State and that professional development opportunities are inadequate in their availability in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, and that professional development opportunities positively impact teachers’ quality and academic performance in senior secondary ix schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, lastly teacher’s sex has no influence on students’ academic performance in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo.
