ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate teacher quality and students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.Four research questions were raised to guide the study which are outline thus:What is the teacher qualification available in your school in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State? What is the relationship between availability of quality teachers and students’ academic performance in Ovia North East Local Government area of Edo State? What the relationship between teachers’ qualification and students’ academic performance in Ovia North East Local Government area of Edo State? What is the relationship between the adequacy of facilities and students’ academic performance? The research work adopts descriptive survey research design and makes use of mean and standard deviation to analyze the data collected through the use of a structured questionnaire which serves as the research instrument. The data collected were analysed in the chapter four of the research work according to the research questions raised in the chapter one of this research work. Therefore, having carried out the research work it is discovered that that teacher quality availability in secondary school in Ovia North East include OND qualification, HND qualification, B.Sc qualification and M.Sc. qualification. Teacher qualification help in development of students’ intelligence quotient. Availability of qualify teachers increases teachers output. adequacy of facilities exposes students to different career choices. 7 Adequacy facilities engender healthy competitions among students. It was recommended that Government should organize workshops and seminars for school administrators to upgrade their administrative capacity. More funds should be allocated to schools to enable them provide the needed facilities to enable the students perform better.
