ABSTRACT
This research study examines teacher’s quality and academic performance of students in public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Factors such as qualifications and years of experience were examined to know their effects on the academic performance of secondary school students. The study adopts a descriptive survey research design. The population comprises of four hundred and eighty three (483) teachers taken from thirteen (13) public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select ninety seven (97) teachers from three public junior secondary schools. The data was analyzed using simple percentage, frequency, pearson correlation and analysis of variance (ANOVA) The results showed that teachers who are highly qualified and has more years of experience have a positive impact on the student’s academic performance. It also showed that the level of academic performance of students in public junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State is high. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that there should be a general reform of teacher education in all teacher training institutions.
