ABSTRACT

The study sought to determine teachers personality and its impact on the academic performance of public primary school pupils in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. To guide the study, four research questions were raised. The population of the study comprised all teachers in public primary schools in Idemili North Local Government Area. The simple size of sixty teachers was used while random sampling technique was applied to select schools. The research instrument used was a questionnaire which was properly validated with a reliability of 0.67 and was ascertained with the aid of two other lecturers at the Institute of Education. The data obtained were analyzed using frequency distribution and simple percentage analysis. The findings of the study revealed that teachers personality has an influence on the academic performance of pupils in public primary schools, positive teachers personality motivates pupils' learning behaviour and gender disparities affect teachers personality. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made which include: teachers should be well incentivized and praised for their remarkable efforts, the government should organize education-related seminars and workshops on personality development for public school teachers, teachers should provide motivation and rewards for their pupils and should also be sensitive towards the individual needs of their pupils.
