ABSTRACT

The study was designed to find out the teachers perception of the problems associated with the effective teaching of English Language in public secondary school in Oredo Local Government area of Edo state, the main objectives were to ascertain the state of students enrolment in senior secondary school and to investigate the level of students’ academic performance and the relationship between both of them. The study adopted the descriptive survey research deign. The population of the study was drawn from 13 public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State and a sample size of 130 teachers was drawn from the total population. From the data analyzed, it was revealed there is no clear difference between female and male teachers perception of the problems associated with the effective teaching of English Language in public secondary school. The study therefore recommend that the teachers should encourage students to develops interest in practical activities by engaging them in practical and providing instructional materials that will challenge them to be actively involved during practical lessons.
