ABSTRACT
This study investigated teachers’ perception of the effectiveness of virtual learning engagement during COVID-19 pandemic in public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve this broad objective, four research questions were raised and answered while four corresponding hypotheses were formulated and tested. The design for the study was a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised four hundred and twenty-one (421) teachers from fourteen (14) public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Are of Edo State. Taro Yamane was used to get the sample size of two hundred and five (205) teachers from fourteen (14) public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area. The research instrument used was a structured questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using mean, t-test and Standard Deviation (SD) statistics were used for the analysis of data. The mean and the grand mean was used to answer the research questions. The grand mean was obtained by dividing the sum total ratings by the product of the sample size (N) and the number of items in the variables. The t-test was used to test the hypotheses at .05 level of significant. The results showed that there was a significant difference between teachers’ perception of the effectiveness and virtual learning facilities, administration of test, administration of student’s home assignment and final examination during COVID-19 pandemic in public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. It was recommended that government should provide facilities for virtual presentations in secondary schools to substitute physical classes in case of situations like COVID 19. Also, teachers and students should have adequate training on Information and Communication Technology to update their knowledge on modern technological advancement.
