ABSTRACT
This study investigates “Teachers knowledge on the teaching strategies that can enhance learning ability in computer science in senior secondary schools”. Data collected were analyzed using “test re-test” method for the study. The Population of the study consist of the teachers in the Public Secondary School in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State. A population of Thirty (30) teachers was used in the study. The research instrument used for the study was questionnaire. The questionnaire was divided into two sections. “Section A” was designed to generate personal information of the respondent. While the “Section B” comprises of items on the topic under research. It was constructed with care to reflect the problem of the study such that the items would be relevant to the purpose of the study. The instrument was reviewed and certified by the Project Supervisor in the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology, Faculty of Education in University of Benin. The findings of this study reveal that teacher’s knowledge has an influence of both the learner’s learning ability and academic performance in computer science adequate teacher training on the various teaching strategies is important for both the effective teaching and learning of computer science. It was recommended that effective measures is taken teachers should participate in workshops, seminars and online courses focused on computer science education which will help them satay updated on the latest teaching methodologies, technological advancements and curriculum developments, computer science curriculum should reflect the diversity of students’ background, interests and experiences, schools should implement a system of ongoing assessment and feedback to monitor student progress, identify areas of improvement and adjust instructions accordingly and schools should ensure that instructional materials, learning resources and classroom activities are accessible to students with diverse learning needs and abilities.
