ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to examined teachers and students’ attitude towards sex education in secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population of the study comprise of students in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State A sample of 100 students were randomly selected from the population. Questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents. The data collated were analyzed using the simple percentage and t test. The findings from the study revealed that secondary school teachers in Ovia North East L. G. A teaches the students sex education. Also, it was seen that secondary school students poorly learn sex education. It was also revealed that the attitude of teachers towards sex education significantly influence their teaching of sex. The recommendation includes That sex education should be made compulsory from junior secondary school up to tertiary level of Nigerian educational systems. That the structure of the subject should be done in such a way that the religious and cultural beliefs of the people are protected. That such a syllabus should not be devoid of the religious connotations that will endear it to both parents and students of the different religious groups.
