ABSTRACT
The study examined the impact of teacher's educational qualifications and class ratio on the performance of secondary school students in economics in a sample of Egor Local Government Area in Edo state. In this study five questions and two hypothesis were developed and tested at 0.05 level of significance The study employed descriptive design. the population of the study comprised 12 principal from the 12 public secondary schools in Egor Government Area and the sampling size was 12 principals was the from 12 secondary schools. The census sampling technique was used to select the sampling. A checklist used to elicit information for the study and was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. The data was analyzed using the frequency count and percentage. The results of the research showed that teacher’s qualifications and quality has strong influence on student academic performance in public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. Significance relationship exist between teacher's years of experience and student academic performance in economics. The study recommended among others that the government should ensure more teachers are recruited and deployed to Egor Local Government Area and the that the state ministry of education should take proactive measures to ensure that the teacher –to – student ratio in Egor Local Government Area complies with the set standard of the National Policy on Education.
