ABSTRACT

This research aimed to investigate the impact of teacher quality on the academic performance of students in public senior secondary schools within Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide this research, five research questions were posed and addressed. The research employed a descriptive and expo-facto survey research design. The study's target population consisted of 500 teachers working in public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government of Edo State. A sample of 250 teachers was purposively selected to participate in the survey by completing a questionnaire. Two research instruments, the Teachers Quality Questionnaire (TQQ) and Student Academic Performance Proforma (SAPP), were used to gather data. The questionnaire comprised two sections: Section A focused on personal information, while Section B gathered data on various teacher variables, including their level of educational and professional qualifications, teaching experience, and socioeconomic status. A checklist was used to collect documented information on student academic performance. These research instruments were validated by the researcher's supervisor and two other experts from the Department of Educational Management at the Faculty of Education, University of Benin.
