ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine teacher motivation and students' academic performance in public secondary Schools in Egor local government area of Edo state. In a bid to achieve the purpose intended, five(5) research questions were raised to enable the researcher achieve the objectives of the study. The study adopted Description Survey Research Design and the population of this study consists of all full time teachers(junior and senior) in public secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo state while a total sample size of 100 teachers was used.The instrument used for data collection was the structured questionnaire. The face and content approach was used to determine the validity of the instrument, while the Cronbach Alpha reliability method was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. The data collected were analyzed using mean. The analysis revealed that the benefit of teacher motivation to students' academic performance is enormous if properly applied. This can influence the standard of students' academic performance in the society. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended that regular and prompt payment of salaries and allowances should be made available to teachers in Egor Local government area, in order to enhance their dedication to duties. Government of Egor local government council and Edo state government should look into the allocation or monthly salaries and allowances of teacher with a view to reviewing and increasing it, since the economic situation in the country is not static and favourable. This will help to increase the job performance of teachers. Promotion exercise should always be conducted annually and as at when due and subsequently implemented without delay so as to reflect on their salaries. The working environment under which teachers perform their duties should be made conducive enough to boost there interest in teaching and learning process. Adequate teaching aids and materials should be made available for effective teaching and learning.
