ABSTRACT

This study seeks to synthesize an ultra-stable zeolite-Y from local sediments for the treatment of crude oil extraction produce water.

Zeolite was produced by the hydrothermal synthesis method using an autoclave. Batch adsorption experiment experiments were performed in a stoppered 250ml conical flask in a speed-controlled orbital shaker with continuous shaking at150rpmto study the effect of dosage concentration and contact time.

The results of XRF confirms that the ratio of 2.48:1 silicon to Aluminum which is similar to faujasite, FAU known as zeolite-Y. The scanning electron microscopy shows that the zeolite had a highly porous structure, with many small pores on the surface. The result of the adsorption experiment shows that the rate of nitrate removal from the solution increases with increase in contact time. The results of analysis of produced water before and after treatment shows that Mn, Sr, Na and Zn was completely removed from the solution and Ca, Mg, Tl, Fe and K has a very high %removal of 90.86%, 88.42%, 72.73%, 68.85% and 66.91% respectively.
