ABSTRACT
The reactions started with quinoline, glacial acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide as starting materials. The quinoline reacts with glacial acetic acid / hydrogen peroxide to give quinoline n-oxide which was nitrated at position 4 using concentrated sulphuric acid and potassium nitrate to give 4 nitroquinoline N-oxide (recrystalized from acetone) compound (2) which was also chlorinated at position 4 using concentrated hydrochloric acid to give 4-chloroquinoline N-oxide (3) which was also hydroxylated at position 4 using sodium hydroxide to give 4-hydroxyl quinoline N-oxide (4).
