ABSTRACT
A derivative of 5-chloro-1-ethyl-2-methyl-4-nitro imidazole was synthesized according to the pathways represented in the scheme. In the first step, white crystals of N, N-diethyloxamide (Compound A) were obtained. Secondly, cyclization of compound A with phosphorus pentachloride (PCl5) to obtain compound B. Thirdly, compound BI was obtained by nitrating compound B. Furthermore, compound BI was refluxed with appropriate methylamine for 3hours and then extracted using chloroform to obtain the target compound BII. The physical properties of the synthesized compounds which include the state, the retention factor, and the melting point were determined.
