ABSTRACT
Hydroxyapatite (HAP) is a calcium phosphate compound with the chemical formula Ca10(PO4)6OH2. This compound is especially significant in biomedical applications since it resembles the mineral constituents of the hard tissue in the human body. Its biocompatibility, castability, and sinterability make it a very attractive material for simulating bones and therefore for implantations. The objective of this study was to prepare HAP with a phthalic acid as a surface modifier under different pHs. HAp was prepared by chemical precipitation using salts of calcium nitrate and ammonium phosphate. The SEM result showed that rectangular to sponge-like crystals were obtained at different pH's.The FTIR spectrum indicated functional group present in HAp.The SEM monographs demonstrated on the effects of phthalic acid on the surface of HAp and pH on controlling the morphology as well as reducing the size of nanoparticles.
