ABSTRACT

The co-utilization of biomass and coal in power plants has the potential to provide environmental, technical, and economic benefits. In this study, the synergistic effects of co-utilizing coal and biomass were evaluated through thermo-gravimetric analysis and pyrolysis. The proximate analysis of the coal-biomass blend showed that the volatile matter percentage was intermediate between that of pure biomass and pure coal, while the ash matter percentage was intermediate between that of pure coal and pure biomass. The ultimate analysis of the coal-biomass blend showed that the carbon, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen content were all intermediate between those of pure coal and pure biomass, with the specific values varying depending on the blend ratio. The calorific value of the coal-biomass blend was also intermediate between that of pure coal and pure biomass. The H/C and O/C results also showed that the blend had intermediate values between those of the pure coal and biomass. In conclusion, the presence of biomass in a coal blend leads to a synergistic effect on the pyrolysis products. However, it is important to consider potential sources of error in the experiment, such as variations in the properties of the raw materials and variations in the pyrolysis conditions. To minimize these sources of error, it is recommended to carefully control the properties of the raw materials and the pyrolysis conditions in future experiments. This will help to improve the accuracy and reliability of the results and to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the synergy effect of coal and biomass blend in pyrolysis.
