ABSTRACT

Many people take medicine especially herbal medicine without caring about the appropriate dosage. According to Paracelsus, all substances are poison, what differentiate a poison from remedy is the right dose. This study determine the effect of methanol extract of uraria picta at different doses on total cholesterol and triglyceride level of albino Wistar rats. Animals were divided into five groups and administered different doses as follow: group 1 was administered dose of 50mg/kg, group 2 was administered dose of 300mg/kg, group 3 was administered dose of 1000mg/kg, group 4 was administered dose of 2000mg/kg and group 5 was the control group. Effect of the different doses of the extract was observed that the total cholesterol level increased when compared to the control group and the triglyceride level decreased when compared to control group. There was increase in body weight of the rats compared to the control group.
