ABSTRACT

This report presents the findings of a subacute toxicity study conducted on liver function parameters fractions of Spondia mombin and Detarium microcarpium in Swiss Albino male Wistar mice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential toxic effects of these herbal extracts on the liver functions of experimental animals. The study was conducted over a period of 28 days with different doses of the extracts administered to mice. The liver function parameters were evaluated using standard methods. Histopathological examination was also carried out on liver tissues of mice. The results showed that subacute administration of both extracts did not significantly affect liver function parameters. However, some changes in liver histology were noticed at higher doses of the extracts. In conclusion, Spondia mombin and Detarium microcarpium extracts did not exhibit significant toxicity on liver function parameters in Swiss Albino male Wistar mice under subacute conditions. Therefore, both extracts could be considered as safe for human consumption. The study was based on credible scientific literature and protocols.
