ABSTRACT

In this work, adsorption experiment were performed to remove chlorobenzene from aqueous solution using cellulose obtained from the pulping of sawdust. The effect of adsorbent dosage, contact time, initial concentration of chlorobenzene, temperature and pH were studied. A maximum chlorobenzene adsorption of 68.75 % was achieved at pH 11 with an adsorbent dosage of 1.0g and a contact time of 15 minutes and an initial concentration of 10ppm, the adsorption data was best fitted to the Freundlich model. This result suggested that cellulose can be effective in the removal of chlorobenzene from an aqueous solution.
