ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was designed to examine students’ utilization of digital technology for academic in university of Benin, four research questions were raised to guide the study. What is the level of students access to digital technology? What is the level student’s utilization of digital technology for academics? What the level of male and female students’ utilization of digital technology for academic? What is the level of digital technology utilization by science and humanities students? The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population of the study comprised eight thousand one hundred and fifty (8,150) full time undergraduate students of the Faculty of Education University of Benin. A sample of 200 students were randomly selected from the population. Questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents. The data collated were analyzed using the simple percentage. The findings from the study it was revealed that students are interest in digital technology for effective academic performance. It was seen that student used material gotten from blogging sites to compliment what they have been taught. It was revealed that male and female students use digital technology networks differently in different frequencies. The recommendation includes Institutions should focus on making pleasant things useful promoting digital technology utilization networks as a tool not only for communication and entertainment but also for learning. Digital technology should allow their users to voluntarily restrict attendance on certain days, for example, to students during a session.
