ABSTRACT

This research work empirically explored the major factors affecting Students Readiness and Perception Towards the Learning Of English Language and Literature in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. Chapter one comprises of Backgroundof the study , Statement of the problem ,Research Question ,Purpose of the study, Scope and Delimitation of the study, Definition of terms and chapter two comprises of reviews of related literature.Chapter three comprises of the design of the study used for this study is survey, the population targeted for this study consists of all senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area, a total number of 20 schools was used as sample size consisting of 100 questionnaires administered to staffs and cluster sampling technique was applied. Instrument used for this study is the questionnaire. Data collection were collected from senior secondary schools. From the analysis of the date, the findings show that the level of students readiness and perception in learning of English language in senior secondary schools is average and needs to be raised and the provision of infrastructural facilities, reading, discussion, effective writing are major strategies to improve English language skills. Chapter five comprises of various strategies that will help raise the level of students readiness and perception towards learning English language in senior secondary schools should be adopted such as employment of only qualified teachers, seminars/ forums/ workshop should be created, motivation, use of internet.
