ABSTRACT

This project work is design to investigate student’s perception of the problems of teaching and learning of Basics Science in Junior Secondary Schools in Oredo LGA of Edo State. On the basis of this, four research questions were formulated

The descriptive survey research design was employed for the study, the instrument used for the collection of data for the study was a structured questionnaire, 80 copies of the questionnaire were distributed to eighty 80 students. The random sampling technique was used to select the students from the junior secondary schools in Oredo LGA. The method of data analysis adopted for the study was frequency and mean.

The study found out that Basic Science students interests, Basic Science laboratory and facilities, effect of Basic science curriculum, problems of teaching and learning of Basic science include, teaching methods, curriculum content, laboratory facilities student's interest in learning Basic science can affect their performance. In view of findings of the research, it was recommended that teachers should learn various skills to motivate student interest during teaching process. Student should developed the ability of listen to teachers especially from outside Basic Science subject and exhibitions of government and the education policy maker at the national and state level should provide adequate funding to the public secondary school to enable the provision of laboratory facilities laborites equipment.
