ABSTRACT

This study investigated student’s perception of family life education and it’s implication to social studies in junior secondary schools. in order to realize this objective, four research questions were raised and used for the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted in this study. Related literature to this topic was reviewed. The population of study consisted of all students in JSS 3 in Ovia North East Local Government Area. The sample size of this study was 150 respondents, selected from 5 public junior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area..The instrument of data collection for this work was questionnaires titled Analysis of student perception of family life education and its implication for social studies. The research instrument for data collection was validated by the research supervisor and validated by two experts in measurement and evaluation.The findings of this study showed that students have low knowledge of family life education in Ovia North East Local Government. The study revealed that family background affects student perception of family life education in Ovia North East Local Government Area. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the general approach and level with which family life education is taught in schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State should be replaced with the subject based approach. Also there should be effective awareness of family life education by the means of mass media, religious institutions and community leaders.
