ABSTRACT
This study examined student’s perception of factors influencing the teaching and learning of Mathematics in Senior Secondary School in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The design adopted for this study is a survey research design. The sample consisted of 150 respondents from 5 (Five) selected secondary school in the study area. Questionnaire was used for the collection of data from 150 (one hundred and fifty) respondents. The research instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. The test re-test method was adopted in establishing the reliability of the instrument after which the research instrument was administered by the researcher herself. The data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation.
Findings revealed that the qualification of teachers has high influence on the teaching and learning of mathematics. It was also revealed that methods of teaching has high influence on the teaching and learning of mathematics.
Based on the findings, it was therefore recommended that more qualified teachers in Mathematics field should be injected into the teaching profession to create the conducive classroom environments that will make the learning of Mathematics interesting.
