ABSTRACT

       The study investigated the students mathematics knowledge as a correlate on students Performance in Science in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The study employed a descriptive survey research design,using gender as moderator variables.A sample size of one hundred (100) Science students were selected from five (5) schools (four single sexed school and one mixed school) from the population of 13 public secondary schoos in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State .

         Two research Questions were raised to guide the study.

The students results and performance in Mathematics and Science from their previous SS3 First term examination results were adopted for data collection.

The data generated were analysed using frequency, simple percentage and students t-test.

       The study revealed that knowledge of Mathematics and gender have no significant relationship between achievement in Mathematics and Science. Based on these findings, the researcher recommended that Mathematics should be properly thought to students from junior secondary school to enable students Performe better. Also Qualified and knowledgeable teachers should be employed to teach Mathematics and Science in all the public secondary schools in Nigeria.
