ABSTRACT
The study sought to find out the attitude of senior secondary school student towards the subject Economics in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.Statistics has shown that the performance of secondary school students in Economics is not encouraging. This is a point of concern, because even with the Presence of competent teachers this statistics comes to play. It has been observed that in most cases students have been denied admission into tertiary institutions in some Courses like Political Science, Sociology etc, which is due to their failure in Economics or their refusal to offer the subject Economics. The decline in students performance in Economics is worrisome. It is on this premise that this study seeks to investigate students attitude towards the study of Economics in Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area. Another purpose of this study is to make recommendations for teachers and other stake holders on how to improve attitudes in the subject. With the use of survey design and random sampling of three public secondary schools, questionnaire administration is used to acquire information .Data was collected and analyzed using mean. The study found out that students attitude towards Economics can be improved by Economics teachers being highly motivated while teaching, be approachable and use effective and efficient teaching methods. Parents guiding students in their work will positively influence students attitude towards Economics. Students believe and study habits contributes to their attitude towards Economics. The study concludes that Economics teachers and other factors affect the attitude of students and also male and female students as well as senior and junior students have a positive attitude towards Economics.
