ABSTRACT
This study investigated student-athletes’ perception of the benefits of alcohol as
ergogenic aid in athletic performance. A quantitative research approach was employed,
using a structured questionnaire to collect data from 200 respondents.
The questionnaire elicited information on the respondents’ demographic characteristics,
outdoor recreational sports participation, and perceptions of climate change. The results
showed that climate change has a significant impact on outdoor recreational sports
participation, with temperature, rainfall, and humidity being the most significant factors.
The study also revealed that the level of awareness and concern about climate change
among residents was relatively low.
The findings of this study have implications for sports administrators, coaches, and
student-athletes involved in the consumption of alcohol as ergogenic aid.
Recommendations were made for strategies to mitigate the negative impact of alcohol
consumption among student-athletes of tertiary institutions
