ABSTRACT
Five hundred and eight ditch cutting samples from ‘AB’ Well, Greater Ughelli Depobelt yielded a lithostratigraphic model (framework) embracing lithology, grain size, lithofacies, Sand/Shale ratio, lithozones, minerological composition and formation penetrated by the drill. The framework allows erection of thirty lithozones, and five minerals characterized by grain sizes, lithofacies, sandshale ratio and mineralogical composition established in each zone. Four different lithologies have been recognized; Sandstone, Sandy Shale, Shaly Sand and Shale. Identified mineral types are Iron oxide, Hematite (Fe2O3), Mica, Feldspar, Quartz and Lignite streaks respectively. The hydrocarbon play elements recognized include; source rock, reservoir rock, cap/seal rock and traps. Eleven source rocks unit were identified within the depth range 3802m-1698m, while nine of them are probable source rocks and two are potential source rocks. Nineteen reservoir rock units were identified within lithofacie unit two and thirty, and eighteen are potential reservoirs. Eleven cap/seal rocks and nine traps were also identified. It is suggested that a biostratigraphic work be carried out in order to ascertain the age and environment of deposition penetrated by the drill.
