ABSTRACT

This study investigated the Strategies of promoting productivity in the civil service (a case study of Edo State Civil Service Commission). The study undertook a survey research using simple random sampling technique, with a sample of 100 respondents from Edo State Civil Service. The data was analysed using percentages and chi-square Statistics, the result revealed that there is significant relationship between motivation strategies and higher productivity in Edo State civil service. There is significant relationship between staff skills and productivity level in Edo State civil service. There is significant relationship between performance appraisal and productivity in Edo state civil service. There is significant relationship between training and productivity level in Edo State civil service. The study recommends that civil service management should improve on the working conditions of the staff so that the organizational goal will be achieved and without good working condition the staff will not be comfortable to work thereby reducing thebeffectyive4ness of their work. Civil service management should try and have a communication link between them because communication is one of the tools that leads to effectives management and employs skilled people in order to have an efficient output and to achieve their objectives. Civil service management should also motivate their workers allowance should be kept aside for the workers.
