ABSTRACT

The study examined the strategies for intensification in Isoko. The aim of this study was to account for the various processes evident in the realization of intensity in Isoko. The work employed both the primary and secondary method of data collection. The primary method of data collection included the interview and direct method. The interview method involved three males and five females using a voice recorder to record responses to already prepared questions in English that were emphatic. The direct method involved spending time among the speakers of the language. The secondary method of data collection was from documents. The data was analyzed using the descriptive theory.

After analyzing the data, the strategies for emphasis and intensification in Isoko that were discovered are, the use of adverbs, reduplication of adverbs, vowel lengthening and hyperbole.

In summary, the language like other languages of the world employs similar strategies for emphasis and intensification but from past works on Swahili andkimuthambi the process of vowel lengthening, and reduplication of adverbs was not mentioned as a process in the language which was discovered in the Isoko language.
