ABSTRACT
A survey study was carried out titled Strategies for Improving Maintenance of Laboratories and Equipment of Vocational and Technical Education for Effective Service Delivery in Tertiary institutions. Vocational education equips an individual with the skills and abilities to meet a meet a particular need, hence it is an almost certain route to self-employment that must be encouraged, considering the present realities facing Nigeria today.
A statement of the problem was made that vocational and technical education is still very much neglected in the area of adequate funding, staff, modern facilities, staff motivation. The questionnaire was the research instrument used to collect data from the respondents which were comprised of Vocational and Technical Education students in the University of Benin, which was analysed using mean averages. The conclusion arrived at after the study was Strategies for Improving Maintenance of Laboratories and Equipment of Vocational and Technical Education for Effective Service Delivery in Tertiary Institutions is a positive one, that is because most of the sample students embrace the use and constant maintenance of laboratory in teaching the general skill oriented courses associated with Vocational and Technical Education . The results obtained in this study is of great importance to learners, teachers and even school administrators, each category of individual listed can have a better understanding of the roles they have to play to facilitate the effective learning of students under the right laboratory experience.
