ABSTRACT
This study examines strategic planning as a tool for organizational performance: A case study of Guinness Nigerian Plc. Edo State. The study adopted the survey design which was used to source data from a sample of 124 respondents. The hypotheses were testing using chi-square statistical technique. The result revealed that strategic planning has effect on the level of productivity in Guinness Nigerian Plc. Edo State, strategic planning and organizational characteristics has effect on organizational performance in Guinness Nigerian Plc. Edo State, and the factors essential for effective strategic planning practice has effect on organizational performance in Guinness Nigerian Plc. Edo State. The study recommends that company owners and managers should modify their management styles to accommodate strategic planning, good management structure should be erected in all companies so that salient and rudimentary facts and data would be nurtured for the consumption of the top management, environmental factors must be considered and put in proper perspectives while building strategic plans. Top management should ensure that skilled personnel are engaged, who would be able to adopt relevant scientific planning techniques in assisting plans strategically as strategic plans do not crystallize from hunches and guess work. Companies wishing to have and enjoy well-planned strategy must of necessity entrench good information network in their systems, as it is the life wire of management.
