This study investigatedthe relationship between strategic planning and organisational development of selected businesses in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State. In order to actualize the objectives of the study, various literature and theoretical issues were discussed. The instrument used for the purpose of this research was the primary research instrument (questionnaire). The mass of information generated from the questionnaires was summarized in form of table and analyzed using frequency, simple percentage and mean. The researcher administered one hundred (100) questionnaires to respondents, out of which same number (100) were retrieved for the purpose of presenting and analyzing responses to issues raised in the questionnaires. The hypotheses were tested using the regression analysis technique.
The findings from the analysis revealed among other things that: environmental scanning and strategy formulation does not have a significant effect on organizational development; while strategy implementation, and strategy evaluation and control was found to have a significant effect on organizational development.
The study recommends amongst others that; businesses should improve on their environmental scanning activities by refocusing such in tandem with their key performance indicators; businesses should improve on their strategy formulation process by eliminating excessive bureaucratic processes and bottlenecks for improved and timely intervention on strategic matters; businesses should strengthen their implementation of strategic plans by adopting more effective methods for timely implementation of their strategies; among others.
