STAGE MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES IN THE PRODUCTION OF SOYINKA’S BEATIFICATION OF AREA BOY IN UNIBEN THEATRE

ABSTRACT

The project is aimed at examining the functions of stage management and stage management techniques in the play production, The Beatification of Area Boy by Wole Soyinka. In writing this project, materials were sourced from theatre authorities both online and print. Likewise, the production note of the play which was compiled by the Stage Manager was used in order to effectively obtain data for this research. In this research, it was fully discovered that the successful realisation of the production process is dependent on good and effective stage management by the Stage Manager. This is because the Stage Manager is responsible for serving as a primary interface for all creative information, so he must create elaborate systems to process and distribute this information quickly and efficiently for an effective production. Conclusively, this research was carried out to examine some of the flaws common to stage management. The profession of stage management and functions of the Stage Manager are undoubtedly very crucial to achieving a successful play production.
