SPICING UP HIP-HOP DANCE WITH CONTEMPORARY AFRO AND LIGHTING/ SHADOW EFFECTS IN A DANCE BATTLE

ABSTRACT

The study is focused on Spicing up Hip-hop dance with contemporary, Afro and lighting/Shadow effects in a dance battle: “The Unusual Dance Face Off” as Case Study. The objectives of the study was to experiment on hip hop dance complementing it with contemporary and Afro and also using Lighting shadow effect to bring out a new style entirely. For its methodology, this project made use of the experimental method of research. The secondary methods of research were used to complement the experimental to achieve the theory aspect of project. Practical experimentation was through rehearsals that led to a stage performance and production. The Secondary method included consultation of books, journals, articles and the internet. The study found out that hip hop dance battle can also be seen in a more diverse way and still be appreciated and educative. it therefore recommended that dancers, choreographer artists and creative’s in general show not be limited to their creativity especially in dance so it does not get boring instead going all out to get the attention of the audience and to enjoy the performance as even a dancer
