The energy of the sun has been used dating back to the beginning of time. A solar power system is capable of converting the absorbed sun energy; store it in a lead acid cell to be used on a load. Solar energy (a form of renewable energy) refers to as the energy from the sun and it is often stored for later or immediate use. A conventional photovoltaic solar system has four component; a solar cells, a charge controller, an inverter, and if required, a battery. A photovoltaic cells (solar panels) convert light into electrical direct current by taking advantage of the photovoltaic effects. Its three types of solar panels are mono-crystalline , polycrystalline and thin film. A solar system is incomplete without an inverter which it function is to convert the DC (direct current) to an AC (alternating current). In this project, the aim was to look at the specifications of solar panel needed for a 5kVA inverter. To achieve this goal, we installed a home solar energy system. We also estimated the performance of the solar panel at different sunlight intensity, lifespan of the batteries, functions of the power inverter and their compatibility with a load. The cost of different types of solar panels, batteries, and power inverter was analyzed. Based on this review, it was discovered that, mono-crystalline Canadian Solar panels was suitable for our connection. This is because they are produced from pure silicon and produce more power per square meter, also, 2000 watts of mono-Crystalline silicon panels (8 pieces) was the best specification of panels in the design of 5kVA power inverter.
