ABSTRACT
A deep cycle battery is easily distinguished by the fact that it may be completely depleted and then recharged. Despite having a similar appearance to an automobile battery, deep-cycle batteries operate on quite distinct principals. A starting battery or an automotive battery powers the engine with a brief burst of high current. A deep-cycle battery is designed to sustain a low energy flow over an extended length of time. Flooded lead-acid (FLA) and valve-regulated (VRLA) lead-acid batteries are the two main types of deep-cycle lead-acid batteries.
