ABSTRACT
This study was designed to ascertain the sources of occupational stress among workers of the seven up bottling company in Benin city. To guide this study, four research questions were raised. The survey research design was used in conducting the study. The main instrument for the study was a self-structured questionnaire.
The population of the study was 150. The validity of the instrument was established by giving it to the supervisor and two other experts in the field of the research study. The reliability of the instrument was established using the split-half method of reliability which yielded a Coefficient of 0.832. The data obtained from the questionnaires were subjected to analysis using frequency counts and percentages. Results from the study 50 respondents showed that occupational stress is caused by conflict at work, inability to sleep due to excess work, resuming work early and closing late, and working so much as a result of too many work load. It was also seen that these stressors affects the health of workers by making them fall ill, although the stress doesn’t pose a risk to their health. The level of stress they are exposed to is not enough to make them want to quit their jobs as health care services are provided for them.
At the end of the study, it was recommended that the level of work seven up employees are required to do is quite a lot and this makes them stay longer hours at work and even reduce the amount of sleep they get sometimes, as a result I would suggest that the management employs more workers so that the work load on an employee would reduce. A larger number of the employees would become satisfied by the health care services provided for them if there's provision for better health care service.
