ABSTRACT
Optimization of municipal solid waste (MSW) collection and transportation through source separation becomes one of the major concerns in the MSW management system design, due to the fact that the existing MSW management systems suffer by the high collection and transportation cost. Routing of solid waste collection vehicles in developing countries like Nigeria poses a challenging task. In the process of solid waste management, collection and transportation play a leading role in waste collection and disposal, in which collection activities contributed the most to total cost for solid waste collection activities.
This study describes an attempt to design and develop an appropriate collection, transportation and disposal plan for Egor metropolis by using geospatial tесhnоlоgу and applications with using of questionnaires administration which helped in the analysis of study area to determining the minimum cost/distance/time efficient collection paths for the transportation of the solid wastes to the landfill dump sites.
From the results and analysis of this study, using tables and percentages descriptive Statistics estimation technique. The responses were estimated with the Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS version 20). Results show thе total dіѕtаnсе аnd tіmе fоr соllесtіоn аnd trаnѕроrtаtіоn of municipal ѕоlіd waste (MSW) fоr Egor metropolis hаvе been reduced from 98752.5m to 47493.1m and 852.4 min to 391.9mіn rеѕресtіvеlу.
