ABSTRACT
Asthma is a complex syndrome with many phenotypes in both children and adult its major characteristics is the obstruction of airflow bronchoconstriction bronchial hyperresponsiveness and inflammation in the airway .Adansonia digitata is an herb with various medicinal uses for the treatment of different kinds of diseases such as asthma. Several drugs have been tested and used in the control of asthma however a permanent cure is still elusive. The effect of ethanolic extract of Adansonia digitata on superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in lung tissues of guinea pigs have been examined in this study. SOD is abundant in pulmonary tissues (bronchial) and protects the lungs from increased oxidative stress. From this study it was observed that there was no significant increase in the activity of superoxide dismutase in lung tissues of ovalbumin sensitized guinea pigs.
