ABSTRACT
This research examined the Sociolinguistic analysis of Itsekiri Greeting patterns. The different context of greetings as well as the factors that account for the type and structuring of Itsekiri greetings which includes age, sex, context, and time.
This article employs an ethnographic methodology that seeks to find out how greetings as a Socio-cultural linguistic routine operates among the Itsekiri tribe of Niger Delta and whether Itsekiri greetings are similar to other societies or are unique.
The method of data collection uses both primary and secondary methods. In which Data was collected from different Literature books and Oral interviews.
The analysis shows that greeting is a normal Sociolinguistic custom used by the Itsekiri people in establishment of interpersonal relationship.
