ABSTRACT
This study examined the relationship between socio-economic status, domestic violence and effective communication on marital relationship among couples in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. It specifically sought to find out the extent to which socio-economic status, domestic violence and communication affect the marital relationship among couples in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised and three corresponding hypotheses in line with the above objectives were formulated.
The researcher adopted a correlational survey research design. The population for the study comprised of couples residing in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. A purposive sampling technique was used to sample 200 couples. A total of 200 copies of instrument was returned after administration. The research instrument adopted was drafted from Psychological Tests for Counselling and Health Management by Akin Odebunmi (1989). The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics to answer research question 1 and t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.
