ABSTRACT
This study examined the socio-economic impacts of the resettlement programme on the inhabitants of Maroko, now known as Eti-Osa Local Government Area, in Lagos State. The objectives of the study were: to explore the perception of Maroko Affected persons on government procedures in regards to involuntary resettlement; to assess whether Maroko Affected persons were supported with adequate resettlement; to determine the socio-economic impacts of involuntary resettlement to the Maroko Affected persons with specific focus on land, livelihood and access to common community resources; and to review the current coping mechanisms adopted by the Maroko affected persons in an effort to address involuntary resettlement challenges posed on them. Three hundred and thirty copies of questionnaire were administered across the study area but 300 copies of questionnaire were all returned for analysis and the data collected were analyzed using the SPSS version 24. The data were presented in tables, pie charts and bar graphs. Multiple Regression analytical technique was used to test the stated hypothesis. It was discovered that government procedures with regards to involuntary resettlement of Maroko affected persons was not inclusive as the Affected persons were not adequately informed and involved in the resettlement process. It was also discovered that the government compensated the people affected by the resettlement program. It was also ascertained from the study that the resettlement had moderate positive effect on the socio-economic status of residents of Maroko, now Eti-Osa,Local Government Area Lagos State. Finally, provisions for needed amenities and facilities should be initiated in the study area, to enhance the quality of living and careful planning to gradually eradicate the problems associated with involuntary resettlement .
