ABSTRACT
This Study was carried out to determine the socioeconomic and environmental importance of trees in Benin city. It was aimed at evaluating the value of trees, factors affecting the absence of trees and to determine the need to increase awareness in tree planting. The study was carried out in 3 local governments of Benin city; Egor, Ikpoba-okha and Oredo, 50% sampling intensity was applied to the 32 wards in the local governments and 16 wards were selected using random number table. Data was collected using questionnaire and personal interview with respondents, 240 questionnaires were distributed and it showed that 139 of respondents were females While 101 of them were males. Based on the study carried out it shows that 50.00% of the respondents are well educated and are aware of the importance of tree planting to the environment and 90.41% of respondents have planted tree in their communities. However, only 9.58% of the respondents said they have not planted trees.
