ABSTRACT
This study examines the socio-demographic characteristics and its health correlates within selected neighborhoods in Benin City. The objectives of the study were to examine the socio-demographic characteristics within the neighborhood in the study area, the relationship between income and health condition of, the relationship between education level and health condition and the relationship between occupation and health condition of the individuals in the neighborhoods. Questions were administered to a total of 650 respondents and out of this 612 returned valid and the data collected was fed into the SPSS. Using the frequency table, chi-square, linear correlation and regression model to test stated hypothesis, it was found that socio-demographic characteristics is not evenly distributed in the study area and the health outcome was also found to vary between neighborhoods. It also was found out that the high socio-demographic group have better health outcome within the study area while the medium socio-demographic group was found to have the poorest health outcome. The study recommends that individuals within the population most especially in the medium socio-demographic group take enough rest to improve their health outcome.
