SUMMARY
This study examines the phenomenon of states terrorism in Nigeria. It was informed by the past that state terrorism is not a frequently researched area. The idea itself is not new but in African studies scholars usually gloss over the problem. When a state inflicts suffering and infringes on the rights of its residents, it contradicts the idea that the government should be in power to fight for the people it represents. Hence, this study examined how misuse of political power breeds state terrorism and perhaps crime against humanity. Due to its superior military prowess and capacity to institutionalize terrorist methods in long-lasting state structures, state terrorism may unquestionably be much more dangerous and damaging than non-state terrorism. Therefore, critical academics have a responsibility to continue the investigation of the issue and its ramifications in light of the neglect imposed on state terrorism by orthodox scholars.
