ABSTRACT

This project investigated the social work intervention strategies in rehabilitation of female prostitution using Benin City as a focus point. The study shows the critical role to play by social workers in addressing the needs of female in prostitution in Benin City. By providing targeted interventions, social workers can help female transition out of prostitution and into more stable and healthy lifestyles. Objectives of the study was to; explore the experiences of female in prostitution, the socio economy, and political factors that contribute to prostitution, effective social work intervention strategies for the rehabilitation of female prostitutes and the participation and empowerment of female in prostitution in the research process. In literature review, it was observed that there are certain factors that contribute to female prostitution; poverty, trauma, substance abuse, lack of social support and migration. The study made use of descriptive research otherwise called survey research. The age bracket of the respondents were between 20 and 45 years whereby our findings was made thus; cultural and social factors that influence prostitution in Benin City must be taken into account when designing rehabilitation programs. Based on the above findings, it was stated that community education and advocacy efforts should be enacted. Recommendations for the study were; increase awareness awareness among young girls about the dangers of prostitution and the availability of rehabilitation programs; improve access to rehabilitation by government and non-governmental organizations, holistic approaches, that address physical, emotional, and spiritual needs should be integrated into rehabilitation programs to ensure the long-term success of rehabilitation efforts. And develop gender-specific and culturally sensitive approaches.
