Abstract

The study examines Social Work Intervention Strategies in Marital Conflict Resolution in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria. The study area`s population consists of literate illiterate males and females aged 18 and above. The study’s sample size is 396 respondents the study adopted a descriptive survey design. The research instrument used was structured questionnaire in-depth interview guide. The finding revealed that there are a lot of predisposing factors that trigger marital dissolution among couples in the study area, but few of them were identified. The research finding revealed these among others are: Social workers are able to resolve family crises at the onset of the marital crises. Revisiting client’s past experience is one of the strategies that can be used for people who are abused in their union. For instance, the research revealed that a large proportion of the respondents believed that social worker among other agencies helps to unite broken home as well as uniting people from broken homes. It was also discovered that barrier in communication like the use of uncensored communication languages causes marital dissolution in the study area with more than 65 percent of the respondents agreeing to it. It was recommended that premarital counseling is necessary for prospective couples for better understanding of one another. Couples should regularly attend seminars and workshops on topics related to marital harmony and conflict resolution.
