ABSTRACT
This study aimed at examining the role of social work intervention strategies on victims of drugs abuse in Benin Neuron-Psychiatric hospital, Benin City. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The design adopted for this study is the survey research design. The sample consisted of 390 respondents randomly selected from Uselu in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Questionnaires were used for the collection of data from 390 (three hundred and ninety) respondents. The research instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. The test re-test method was adopted in testing the reliability of the instrument after which the research instruments were administered by the researcher. The data obtained were analyzed using the sample percentage table. Findings revealed that there are many causes of drugs abuse among patients in Uselu Neuron-psychiatric hospital which includes that many are involved in substance abuse for the reason that it makes them feel high and bold, it was also revealed that many do get involved in substance abuse in order to increase their intelligence. It was also revealed that cannabis, Solvents/inhalants such as Glue, tipex, fuel product, snuff, tobacco are types of substance abuse in the study area. Based on the findings, it was recommended Government should organize educational programmes, media broadcasts, advertisement, seminars aimed at enlightening the students on the dangers and consequences of drug abuse. It was also recommended that Government should build a clinic/hospital for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts as this will go a long way in the fight against drug abuse.
