The cross sectional research design was adopted for this study. 384 copies of questionnaire were distributed to respondents in in Ogbe community of Edo state. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, and mean with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 24.0.
The empirical result revealed that violence against intimate partners frequently occur among married couples and that economic climate and employment conditions can often lead to domestic violence if not handled with care. The result also showed that religion and culture influences and can affect many aspects of life of married couples. The study recommends the need to increased awareness of domestic violence by government, policy makers, NGO and religious organizations through the social media to create awareness and sensitize the public speak out against violence and that the government should facilitate poverty reduction through soft loans and skill acquisition for both men and women.
